Job Description Tool

About

Hi, I'm Ryan.

I'm Ryan Stanford, and I work in compensation. I spend my days thinking about pay structures, job descriptions, and the rules that govern how jobs get posted — which is exactly how this site started.

Why I built this

I kept watching job postings break state pay-transparency laws. Not from malice — from nobody having a reliable way to check. The laws are a genuine patchwork: a growing number of jurisdictions now have posting requirements, and they don't agree with each other on what has to be disclosed, when, or to whom.

So I did what I do at work: I encoded the actual posting requirements, jurisdiction by jurisdiction, from official sources — and put a free checker on top of the dataset. Paste a posting, pick the state, get a grade, with the official source cited for every rule.

What this is

A free toolkit: a job description generator, a pay-transparency checker, role templates with per-state legal verdicts, and guides for job seekers trying to read postings critically. Everything here is free, no signup. That's the deal, and it's not changing.

The honest limits

This is a quick screen, not legal advice. Laws change, thresholds vary by employer size and locality, and no automated check can make a legal judgment about your posting. For high-stakes decisions, verify with counsel. I'd rather tell you the limits upfront than have you trust it blindly — the restraint is the point.

How it stays free

Free for individuals, forever — that's the commitment. If this ever costs money, it will be teams or API access paying for it, never a paywall on what's free today.

I'm on LinkedIn — happy to hear where the checker got a state's law wrong. Accuracy is the whole point here; I'd rather fix a rule than defend it.
