Pay Transparency Law in Rhode Island

Unlike most states we cover, Rhode Island doesn't require a pay range in the job posting itself. There's nothing to check in a posting's text — disclosure is owed at a different point in the process.

Rhode Island doesn't require a pay range in the job posting itself. On request, you must give an applicant the wage range for the position they're applying for, and the law encourages — without strictly requiring — sharing it before pay comes up in the conversation. Employees must also receive the range when hired, when they move into a new position, and whenever they ask for it.

This isn't legal advice. Laws change and vary by locality and employer size, and this is a general summary, not exhaustive. Verify current requirements for your specific situation with counsel or Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training before relying on this.

Including a pay range in the posting anyway is still a reasonable practice — it can reduce back-and-forth with applicants, even where Rhode Island doesn't require it. If you're posting in another state too, use the free checker to see whether that state does.
